Eoin McHugh - Publisher at Transworld Ireland

Eoin McHugh will discuss various aspects of the publishing process from submission through to publication, with particular emphasis on the publication of non-fiction. He has worked with authors in varied fields, from politics to sport, current affairs to humour – for example, former Taoiseach Albert Reynolds, rugby star Ronan O’Gara, journalists like Declan Lynch and Lorna Siggins, and comedian Jarlath Regan. He will also talk about some of the key considerations which inform the publisher’s evaluation of a book proposal or completed manuscript, especially in the current book market.

Lynn Crampton - Manager of Dubray Books, Grafton Street

Gareth Cuddy - CEO of Directebooks Ltd

As self publishing becomes easily accessible to all, are publishers now redundant? Should authors bypass agents and publishers with a view to publishing directly and retaining more revenue? What roles will publishers need to assume in an increasingly digital world? How can they remain relevant and valued? These are some of the questions facing authors and publishers as eBooks gain in popularity. The talk will begin with a brief overview of the eBook market within the larger publishing industry. The benefits of eBooks for both parties will be outlined, leading to the question of how best to marry the skills and attributes of both publishers and authors to mutual benefit.

Sustaining a Writer's Life - Carlo Gebler

Starting with Lenin’s observation (and how often does one get to quote a dead Bolshevik in the early twenty-first century? Not a lot) ‘The production of art, what ever else it is, is always an economic act’, I am going to talk about how to survive, or how I survive, as a writer, on Grub Street, now.
